Free Standing Portable Ventless and Windowless Air Coolers (or swamp cooler or evaporative cooler or spot cooler) DO NOT REQUIRE WINDOW VENTING! They are basically a fan device using tap water and ice to cool the air going through the unit by as much as 15 °F. (If you wet your arm and then blow air on it your skin surface feels cooler. That's evaporative cooling.) Air Coolers (or swamp cooler or evaporative cooler) are popular because they are relatively inexpensive compared to portable air conditioners, do not require venting of any heat like portable air conditioners do, use only 60 watts of electricity and are easily maintained by the average person. Air Coolers use water and ice to provide a cool stream of air out of the unit that is lowered by 10 °F to 15 °F then room air temperature but Air Coolers DO NOT lower the ambient temperature of a room as an air conditioner would. Air Cooler Limitations: Evaporative (Swamp) air coolers can work wonderfully well, provided the outside air they are drawing in is 38% or LESS in humidity. If the humidity is high in a room an Air Cooler will be less effective, in fact, it can make the air feel warmer. The dryer the input air the better. As the hot humidity increases the ability for them to cool the air effectively decreases. Simply put, Air coolers were not designed to work in high humidity conditions, ONLY for very LOW humidity conditions. PLEASE NOTE: If your outdoor humidity is 38% or MORE, then an Air Cooler probably will NOT work well for you. Air Coolers ARE NOT room coolers, they WILL NOT cool a room or an area, they ONLY cool the air going through them and are for DIRECT PERSONAL COOLING! To cool a room you MUST use an Air Conditioner!!!

Portable Air Conditioners are in many ways like a refrigerator. They use Freon which is easily convert from a gas to a liquid and back again. Freon is used to transfer heat from the air inside of a home to the outside air (through a vent ducted to a window). The compressor compresses cool Freon gas, causing it to become hot, high-pressure Freon gas. Then, this hot gas runs through a set of coils so it can dissipate its heat which is vented out a window or opening in a wall via a supplied vent duct and it condenses into a liquid. The Freon liquid runs through a expansion valve, and in the process it evaporates to become cold, low-pressure Freon gas. This cold gas runs through a set of coils that allow the gas to absorb heat and cool down the air which is then blown out of the unit. Portable air conditioners ALSO dehumidify the air by drawing moisture out of the air lowering the humidity of the air slightly. ALL PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONERS (Except the ACW100 Mini AC) REQUIRE A WINDOW OR WALL VENT to vent out the heat generated by the portable air conditioner! Air conditioners cool rooms.

Dry air absorbs moisture through evaporation. When water evaporates, it absorbs heat and the air is cooled.
If your air is humid (Above 38%) it can not absorb moisture, it is already wet and can not be cooled!

Unlike air conditioner use, air cooling with water evaporation means you don't close all the doors and windows to keep the cool air in. Doors and windows need to be open so that there is proper ventilation and airflow to distribute the cool air and get rid of the warm, wet air through the open windows and doors.
The effect of an air cooler is like having on a wet T-shirt and standing in front of a fan.
When using Air Coolers, WINDOWS should be OPEN so there is air circulation and DRY air coming in the room!

I am a New Yorker and I was searching for a portable air conditioner on the web when I learned about portable air coolers which are much more cheaper (almost $300.00 less!). So I searched the web about Air Coolers and found hundreds of sites selling them with great information and I also found your site on Air Coolers . BUT yours had different information then all other websites on Air Coolers! It seems you take a total different position on what an Air Cooler IS and what it will DO for me. What you say basically tells me that for my situation it would not cool my room down. I figured since you were the ONLY COMPANY I could find saying what you were saying about air coolers that you were wrong and simply saying these things to try to sell a more expensive Air Conditioner to me. (I even E-Mailed you to let you know how I felt and your response was that you were simply telling the truth about Air Coolers and giving as much information and what you have learned about them for a consumer to make the right buying decision!) Your policy on Air Coolers is no returns which I also did not like. So I decided to BUY an Air Cooler from someone else!!

I NOW WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO YOU!!!! You, Natural Solutions Environmental, Inc. ARE THE ONLY ONES TELLING THE COMPLETE TRUTH ABOUT AIR COOLERS AND YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK. Everything you say on your website Air Cooler Page about air coolers is TRUE!!! When I received my Air Cooler from your competitor I set it up and turned it on. Outside it was 84 degrees F and 63 percent humidity. I left the room, which is only 150 sq.ft. , for about 30 minutes and returned expecting some relief. When I entered the room it was TERRIBLE!!! It felt SUPPER SWEATY and being in the room only for a few minutes, I started sweating myself. I figured I did something wrong but how could I, I just added water and ice and turned it on, no rocket science required here!! I figured the unit was not working correctly. I ACTUALLY HAD TO OPEN A WINDOW TO COOL THE ROOM DOWN!!! I called who I bought the unit from and after talking with them we figured the unit was not defective. He told me to try to use other fans to distribute and cool air around... that did not work. I called and returned the unit for a refund. I had to PAY to ship it back and also had to pay a restocking charge of 25% ( a total of $47.25!!).

The end result is if I would have believed your webpage on Air Coolers I would NEVER have bought an Air Cooler, I would have bought an Air Conditioner. Your information tells me that it would NOT work for me. I also know why you have a no return policy on your air coolers. If someone reads your information, WHICH IS THE BEST AND MOST TRUTHFUL THAT THERE IS ON AIR COOLERS and disagrees with you and still buys it, they should be stuck with it!!
